[08:29:42] jimharris, seems possible [08:30:37] but even on the CH build pool shouldn't the post be visible in the output? [08:32:44] oh - i see what you mean [08:33:45] why did you date it August 18th? [08:33:49] 2018-08-18? However, if I subsequently, from the top of my tree, do a "make -C shared_lib", the install target is attempted to be built which results, understandably, in an error since I'm not running as root and it's trying to install to a system dir. What I don't understand, is why does it try to build the install target in [13:14:58] shared_lib? It's not the first rule, "all:", is and it does not have "install" as a dependency. [14:23:11] I retract part of that. The first rule is $(SHARED_LIB) -- not "all". But still, $(SHARED_LIB)'s dependencies don't appear to include "install", so how/why is that target attempted to be built? [14:38:20] Never mind: I found that the mk/spdk.app.mk which is included by the Makefile has a rule, "install: all". I'm unfamiliar with this paradigm where a rule -- in this case "install:" -- appears more than once (i.e. after include's) in a Makefile. [15:28:27] hey lhodev - i'm at flash memory summit today and tomorrow - may have time tomorrow to take a look at this tomorrow or Friday once i'm back in the office - is your latest patch (or patches) pushed to gerrithub so i could try them out? Will likely push a change in the next day or so. The first will be to bring, to my understanding, the build of the existing monolithic shared lib to compliance with: https://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/text/Program-Library-HOWTO. [17:30:04] jimharris: Then, I'll be working on the individual shared libs. That's a bit more complicated owing to the final linking of executables.
